As many of you are aware my father was blind for a large part of his life. I have had first hand experience of the help and assistance which the Royal National Institute of Bling People is able to give in making the lives of blind people somewhat easier. Through their help he was able to read braille, taught how to negotiate traffic and provided with equipment to listen to audio books. This may seem rudimentary but in the 1970’s this was quite revolutionary. In short he was able to lead an independent life. 

Their work is invaluable and the beneficiaries would be adversely affected without their valuable input. I therefore urge those of you who have received an invitation to my party that instead of spending your money on buying a birthday gift for me, I will be grateful if instead you could direct that gift in cash l to this wonderful charity which has always remained close to my family. I thank you all for your generosity in advance.
