London Marathon 2020 · 29 October 2019

1 in 3 people globally do not have a waste management service and have no option but to burn or dump their waste, much of it ending up in the oceans. We share waste management and recycling skills that help people to help themselves from poverty, improve public health, and protect the environment

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Your gift will help empower people in the poorest parts of the world to fight poverty, pollution and climate change.

This year as Lady Captain of Army Golf Club I set myself some challenges so I hope you will help me get through this with your encouragement and support to complete my goals. I have signed up for 3 events; Farnborough Half Marathon in Hampshire on Sunday 26th January, Fleet Half Marathon Sunday 15th March (my son Nathan is also running this event) and as an ultimate last is London Marathon on Sunday 26th April 2020.

The reason I've chosen to represent WasteAid as my charity is because I've been inspired with their efforts to help tackle a major global problem in plastic pollution in the marine environment. WasteAid work with upstream and coastal communities to set up small recycling centres and help keep plastic out of rivers and the oceans. They also share skills in managing organic waste, helping people make the most from the ‘waste’ materials they have.

I'm sure most people have watched the Sir Attenborough programme 'No Time To Waste' which shows one person is dying every 30 seconds in developing countries from diseases and illnesses caused by plastic pollution and uncollected rubbish dumped or burnt near homes.

I hope you will support me with this worthy cause not just by raising money but also through raising awareness of how to properly dispose of rubbish.

Please think recycling to save the planet.
