Anna's 100km London to Brighton challenge!

London to Brighton 2015 · 23 May 2015 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As a part of team "The Walkie Talkers", alongside the gorgeous Grace Burfield, Lucie Titchmarsh and Verity Treadwell, I will be walking 100km, come rain or shine, from London to Brighton on May 23rd 2015!
The reason?
As most of you know, my step mum passed away in June 2014 after battling lung cancer. Her loss is devastating and I cannot imagine how we would have got through the past year without the overwhelming love and support of friends and family, to whom I am eternally thankful. Throughout this journey I have become increasingly aware of how lucky I am to have such wonderful people around me, but how this is not something to be taken for granted.
Macmillan have set up a home befriending service, Brighton Buddies, supporting people affected by cancer, with a particular focus on those who are socially isolated. Volunteers provide emotional support and companionship, offer a helping hand for everyday practical tasks and give information on local services. Essentially, 'Buddies' provide the kind of support I know I would be lucky enough to receive from my friends and family...but not everybody has that. To have someone to help with the cooking/cleaning/shopping, to listen when you need an ear, to escape with for a walk or a film, to accompany you to chemotherapy sessions/hospital appointments, it's invaluable. And something everyone deserves.
I am working closely with the organisers of the scheme and all money donated will go directly to training more volunteers, and delivering the key message from Macmillan in the most practical sense: You don't have to face cancer alone. It costs approximately £200 to train 8 volunteers, and between £60 and £400 to get the word out there to people who would benefit from the service. Every penny counts. So please, dig deep, make the inevitable blisters worthwhile, and keep my feet walking!
Much love xxxx
