Young people today face 24/7 pressure. Soulscape exists to give them space. We work with Wokingham and Bracknell schools to give young people space to reflect, ask big questions, and creatively express their own ideas. We explore big issues from peer pressure to faith to pornography.

Story

Young people face 24/7 pressure from modern life. The rise of social media has created a culture of comparison and the pressure to succeed is greater than ever.

As a result we are seeing a mental health epidemic in our young people. The number of teenagers with mental health problems has doubled in the last 20 years. In 2018, more than a fifth of 14-year-old girls said they had self-harmed.

Soulscape aims to create space away from it all. Space to reflect, to ask big questions, to explore what’s going on inside, and to creatively express their own ideas.

It does this by providing a range of different workshops in schools, promoting discussions of many issues that affect young people.

I have been involved with Soulscape since January this year and have seen the positive impact they are having on young people's lives. They encourage young people to think outside the box, and discover who they want to be rather than telling them who they are.

I feel like Soulscape is highlighting issues that desperately need talking about - such as relationships, mental health, academic pressure, identity, sex and porn.

I feel privileged to have the opportunity to work for a charity that is addressing issues that I am passionate about and to contribute towards better mental health for young people.
