Anna's Marathon for Worldwide Radiology

Edinburgh Marathon Festival Full Marathon 2022 · 29 May 2022 ·
Medical imaging has revolutionised the practice of medicine for those who can access and afford it. However, the majority of patients in the world do not have access to even the most basic tests like pregnancy scans and x-rays. Even where such tests are available, a shortage of skilled trained staff means that the tests cannot be interpreted and therefore cannot accurately inform diagnosis and patient management.
I am a medical student doing research for Worldwide Radiology into ultrasound provision in Ghana. Through this and a recent placement in Malawi, I have seen that we take scanning capacity like ultrasound for granted in the UK.
WWR trains and works with healthcare staff in a sustainable model that gives them the tools to scan and train others as well as providing research and advocacy.
I want to raise money by running my first ever marathon to fund the training of doctors (like I will soon be- scary!) in sub-Saharan Africa.
