Diabetes UK is the charity leading the fight against the UK's devastating and fastest growing health crisis, working to create a world where diabetes can do no harm. It’s a fight that involves all of us – sharing knowledge and taking diabetes on together. Join us.

Story

I have decided to run the London 10K this summer for Diabetes UK. Having always been a sprinter but never having run long distances, this is a daunting as well as exciting new experience. I have been training since March to try and build up my fitness and maximize my endurance, in between university deadlines!. Running has never been my strong suit but since I started training for this challenge, I must now confess I am starting to really enjoy it.

I have chosen to raise money for Diabetes UK, as my younger sister was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 12. I have seen her grow up with it, adapt to it, integrate it into her lifestyle and learn to manage it through academic hurdles, growth spurts and lucky for me… teenage mood swings!

I am very grateful to Diabetes UK for raising awareness and keeping diabetics informed of the latest breakthroughs. They help increase the general understanding of the condition as well as creating a diabetic community. I hope, by running the London 10K this summer, that I can make a contribution to the charity however small and help further the reach of the amazing work they do.
