We support local partners around the world to combat avoidable blindness.

Story

Hello, I'm Annabelle. Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, though which I'm raising $1,800 for Sightsavers, to help restore people's sight.

I will be having my bat mitzvah in a month. In my community, we do something we call our 'Tikun Olam' project (TOP), which translates to 'healing the world', and that is precisely what I am going to do. To make this possible I would very much like your support in helping me do my part to achieving 'Tikun Olam'.

I think that sight is one of the most important parts of a human, so if it is possible to help someone get their sight repaired or get it back, that is amazing. So the charity I will be donating to as my T.O.P project does exactly that.

Sightsavers is a global organisation based in the UK that helps treat multiple different eye problems worldwide and help disabled people a better life. They have distributed 437 million treatments to protect against river blindness, provided 6.9 million sight-restoring cataract operations, and supported more than 180,000 people with disabilities to live independently. Sightsavers founder Sir John Wilson was blinded by an explosion during a school chemistry lesson and dedicated his life from that moment on to helping people try to get their sight restored and prevent blindness.

To raise the funds I will be asking you to sponsor me for either one or other of these two activities. You get to choose which:

  • a 20 minute run each morning, which I hope you will sponsor
  • creating packs of 3 homemade birthday cards, which I hope you will purchase and use.

There are reasons behind my choice of these activities. So first of all, I am not the best of runners, which means that this is a great learning experience as well as building my stamina (and raising money of course), and through my effort I hope to make a difference for others. Similarly, making cards by hand that hopefully you will wish to use represents a personal effort on my part through arts and crafts to make a difference for others. It makes me happy to give you, my sponsor, the choice of which of these endeavours you wish to support. It's my way of showing you it matters to me.

If you wish to support, could you very kindly:

  1. Make your donation on my JustGiving page here: https://www.justgiving.com/Annabelle-Green
  2. Reply to this email to say which of my two activities you are choosing to support:  my running challenge, or my handmade birthday cards for you to use.

Thank you very much for supporting me and Sightsavers through my JustGiving page!

Much love,

Annabelle

P.S.  My parents wrote these paragraphs and asked me to add them:
