Back in 2012 I was so ill I thought I'd never be the same again and certainly never ride again (and look at me now - riding, weight training, swimming, walking up hills...Having another Birthday!). In fact my photo here is from the very first ride I managed post PMR - just look at the huge grin!

I'm asking for donations to PMRGCAuk because the charity offers support to sufferers like me and also champions research into treatments for both Polymyalgia Rheumatica (PMR) and Giant Cell Arteritis (GCA). Each year nearly 1 in 1,000 people over the age of 40 in the UK develop PMR. GCA is slightly less common, but if not treated quickly can lead to losing the sight in one or both eyes, which is awful.
Sometimes a sufferer can develop both conditions at once too.

I valued the support I had to get through PMR and I now run the London Support Group - one of many groups around the country run entirely by volunteers.  The charity have been instrumental in championing international guidelines for doctors to follow too.
