Story
Hundreds of lawyers will be walking in Birmingham to raise funds for Law Centres and other legal advice charities on 24 September 2009 at 5.00pm. Mr Justice Treacy, President of the MSLT and senior Presiding Judge on the Midland Circuit will be walking, together with other teams from the Courts and Tribunals, firms, chambers, in-house legal departments, ILEX and law colleges. The team from ACS includes, so far,:
Julia Jones, Clare Egan, Alex Loxton, Katie Douglas, Esther Campsall, Romaine Thompson, Sarah Tomlinson, Christine Williams, Kiri Whitehouse, Kristi Woodhouse, Lesley Jukes, Edwina Turner, Matt Wort, Gemma Atherton, Deborah Shaw, Christine Williams, Andrea Lynch, Guy Darvill, Emma Duke, Karen Eustace, Jane Plant, Emma Riley, Mary Lydon, Suzy Vercoe, Sarah Duran, Hilary Harrison, Steve Swan, Rankey Batta, Kate Bowkett, Andrew Lancaster, Bernadette Reid, Pippa Eaden, Nick Carter
The walk follows on from the huge success of last year’s walk in Birmingham which involved 200 walkers from the legal community and raised over £12,000. The walk will raise funds for social welfare legal advice charities such as law centres in the Midlands. These organisations prevent people from being made homeless. They ensure that old people receive proper home care and the benefits they need to stay warm and fed. They help families in debt and young people facing destitution. They challenge social injustice and exploitation and they need your help because they are badly under funded. The walk also generates funds for the advice centres’ support bodies and for organisations providing help and representation at Court and Tribunals.
