Story

Our Club, The JBR Run and Tri Club are always looking for ways to keep our members active during these difficult times and we have decided that alongside this, we would also like to do our best to raise some money for the Southend NHS through The Southend Hospital Charity.

As we are a little restricted at the moment, we have come up with the idea of a Club endurance cycle. Between 6pm Friday night (3rd April) up to 6pm Sunday night (5th April), we are aiming to cycle a total of 5000km between us all, virtually virtual!

To avoid any doubt, this challenge is NOT to flout the rules we are currently living by.  This challenge is designed to be one completed cycling in the virtual world of Zwift on turbo trainers, on those turbos using a bike computer or on a static exercise bike, Wattbike or similar.  Any members cycling outside during their daily exercise limit or those that are key workers who cycle to work will be SOLO or alongside a person they live with, observing all of the government guidelines regarding Social Distancing and keeping to the single daily exercise limit allowed.  We have advised all members that if they break any of the government guidelines, we will not include any of their cycling distance in our total ride.  Our goal is to try and help the Southend NHS in a very small way, not to create any additional work for them.

So far, we have approx. 40-50 members who have put themselves forward to take part. If we get 50 that would mean each of us would have to cycle on average around 100km. But we want as many people within the club to take part as possible whether they cycle 1km or 500km. It is going to be a team effort.

I know money is tight for everyone out there but between us and our various friends/family, I’m sure we can raise a reasonable amount at a time when the NHS really need it. They would be grateful of any amount, no matter how small.

The only way this challenge is possible is together, as a Club.
