I have never taken part in an official timed marathon race and I applied for the ballot entry last May.  Having succeeded in gaining a place, I feel privileged to have this opportunity to join tens of thousands of others in an event that does so much good for so many people.

I have chosen Derby City Mission as the good cause that I should like to raise some funds for, as their work for Derby in social action and christian mission is inspirational and life changing.  Their work is predominantly carried out through volunteers who give their time and their talents sacrificially.
