Hello, myself and a couple fantastic friends’ Fiona and Allie are running the Great South Run on October 30 in aid of the Charity Cancer Treatment and Research Trust (CTRT). This is my way of saying a big thank you to all those people for the outstanding care I received whilst having treatment at Charing Cross Hospital for Gestational Trophoblastic Disease (GTD). This is a rare disease which developed as a result of a molar pregnancy which in itself is a rare complication. The pregnancy sadly had to be terminated and I was placed under the care of Charing Cross Hospital in London who are experts in this condition.  In October 2010, I began a program of monitoring my hCG levels to see if the any remaining molar tissue was growing. Unfortunately, in my case I developed GTD which is where the molar tissue starts to spread and I had to undergo 5 months of Chemotherapy. Thankfully, it is curable and I was given the all clear in June.  This year has been a roller coaster ride both physically and emotionally but I now feel fit enough to run 10 miles. Please help us raise funding for CTRT, for research into why and how cancers develop; better ways of detecting and monitoring cancers; and finding and testing new treatments. CRT has played a key role in funding world class research work undertaken by consultants and their teams in the Gestational Trophoblastic Disease Service at Charing Cross Hospital. Thanks very much for your donations, it is very much appreciated.
