Story
Thank you for taking the time to read about why I'm raising money for Cancer Research.
My first sculling coach and good friend Cranch Lamble fought a brave two year battle against cancer, which ultimately caused his untimely death at the age of 37.
I would like to race the 1900m swim (we've got to have SOME water involved after all), the 90km bike and half marathon of the Etonman Half-Iron Distance Triathlon on 21st September 2014 at Dorney Lake (very fitting!) in his memory, in memory of the person with whom it all began. Without him and his belief and support, much of what I achieved in rowing may never have happened. From complete novice sculler to winning my novice pot within three weeks of first taking up a pair of sculls, and then my first GB vest just two years later, we were proof positive of what is possible. He watched me represent Great Britain at the 2006 Dorney World Championships and told me afterwards how proud he was and that he always knew it would happen for me. I am eternally grateful for that support and belief.
Cancer has no respect for age, lifestyle choice or personal character. It strikes almost anyone, irrespective of their background, and causes unimaginable pain to its victims and their families and friends. I am raising money to help fund research to honour those who have fought and won and fought and lost their battles against this most cruel disease. Family and friends of mine have fought and succumbed, fought and won. Let us keep on fighting.
