Muscular Dystrophy UK is the charity bringing individuals, families and professionals together to beat muscle-wasting conditions.

Story

Arthur Boxall who celebrates his 8th birthday on 1st May will attempt to complete a 37 mile bicycle ride on Friday 2nd June 2017 to raise funds for Help4Harry and Muscular Dystrophy UK. This will be Arthur's 3rd charity ride having completed 12 miles in 2015 and 18 miles last year raising a fantastic total of £3000. This years proposed route will be from Padstow to Wenfordbridge and back.

Arthur became aware of Muscular Dystrophy a couple of years ago when his infant school held a 'Wear Orange for Harry Day.' Harry Barnley is the same age as Arthur, from the same town and was sadly diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) in 2013. DMD is a condition that makes muscles weaker and less flexible over time. The disease almost always affects boys and symptons usually begin early in childhood. Children with DMD have a hard time standing up, walking and climbing stairs. Many eventually need wheelchairs to get around. They can also have heart and lung problems.

Harry's parents set up the Help4Harry campaign to raise funds for Muscular Dystrophy UK, the charity for 70,000 people living with muscle wasting conditions. The website www.help4harry.co.uk provides updates on Harry's condition. Over the past two years a total of £216k has been raised under the umbrella of Help4Harry for Muscular Dystrophy UK.

Harry's Mum Sue has provided an update on how Harry is affected by the condition. "The last 12 months have been a challenging time. He has become more aware than ever, very cross, sad and at times upset about his condition and the fact that all his friends are able to do much more than him. It's hard to find the words to try and comfort him when he says, 'It's sad to be me.' The reality of Duchenne never leaves you for a minute, Harry has started to really struggle with stairs amongst other things. He knows he is different from his friends and hates that fact. He is sad a lot asking why him? Why does he have Duchenne? Why can't someone else have it instead of him? As a parent this is the hardest thing to deal with and answer. I hate Duchenne with a passion and will do anything to find a cure - thanks to everyone who is helping on this journey."

So please support Arthur as he continues to try and raise money for this fantastic cause and to help a friend. Any donation will be gratefully received and put to good use by the charity. As parents to Arthur, we are very proud as once again he is the driving force behind this campaign. From the moment he finished last years bike ride he has been planning and discussing this one. Thank you for your support!
