Story
Arthur Edward Waldock was born in Ashwell on the 20th March 1940 to his parents Arthur and Elizabeth. He had a very happy childhood being raised in the village with his older brother Albert. They got on well as brothers but unfortunately Arthur was to experience some poor health issues when he was young, which included suffering from bouts of Asthma. He went to the local school and while still very young also had a job at Fordham’s brewery; and then on leaving school at fifteen he took on a variety of different jobs in his younger years.
It was in the early 1960’s that he was to marry and go on to have his children Ron and Tara, and they remember having a happy childhood being brought up in the village as well - although sadly the marriage was not to endure.
In his spare time Arthur liked to listen to Rock n’ Roll music or follow his passion for cars and motor sport. In fact all his life he loved to drive a car, finding any excuse to do so, however short the journey! He also enjoyed his holidays and made lots of trips away and visited countries like Cyprus and Mexico; but equally he was just as happy at home cleaning his car! He was an active person and loved to keep busy, never happier than when helping someone out – as his family have explained to me when we met up – he could never say ‘no’ to anyone if they needed a hand.
Arthur was to begin a new chapter in his life when he met a very special lady, his beloved wife Pauline. They were married on the 24th September 2010 - very romantically in Cyprus, with a big family celebration on their return home.
Arthurs last job up until retirement was with D S Smith the cardboard factory. He was a family man through and through, enjoying all the get-togethers at Christmas and Birthdays and the like. He was sociable and chatty and very easy to talk to and as a result greatly liked and respected by all those he met along the way.
Arthur thought the world of his three step grandchildren. Romeo ,Jordan and( ... check this order etc ?) and Michelle's two boys and Daniel . They would often sit on his shoulders and mess around with his hair and he would love all that. He would always look forward to seeing and playing with them and would always have a laugh and joke. He had many of nicknames for them like "little man" "curly top" "polly parrott" and "Charley Barley"!
