Ashfield Riders vs Walkers · 21 September 2018

Every day of the year, your local air ambulance (Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland) is helping save more lives. Our critical care paramedics, doctors and pilots attend an average of five rescue missions a day. We receive no government funding for our daily missions. Your support keeps us flying.

Story

The Cause

Each mission that the Air Ambulance crew flies costs around £1700, so we decided to set this as a minimum fundraising target. It came as a surprise to us that the Air Ambulance Service does not receive any government funding. Their life-saving missions are fuelled by your donations alone.

Last year, a small group of Ashfield Commercial and Medical Employees came up with a plan to combine something that we love with a fundraising event for Ashfield Cares, and more specifically the Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Rutland Air Ambulance.

Coupling together the beneficial effects of cycling for all and a great cause, we cycled 75 miles from Macclesfield to Ashby and raised nearly £5000 for the Air Amublance; this year, we're going bigger and better.

The Challenge

To build on last year's success, we decided we had to go bigger - this year the Cycle will be 100 miles from our Healthcare Communications office in Witney.

To mix things up a bit, we will also have a team of Walkers racing against the Cyclists heading out from Beeston (26 miles) with our Ashby Head Office being the finish line.

Along the way the team will have to face such obstacles as good old fashioned British weather, tyre punctures, broken chains and the certainty of tired (untrained) legs - and that's just the cyclists - the walkers have the even more daunting prospect of blisters, twisted ankles, stubbed toes and maintaining conversation with Chris Lonsdale.

Please donate as much as you can to support a truly great cause.
