“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” Winston Churchill
It is a difficult time for many seeking refuge in disaster-stricken or warring parts of the world. To be a refugee seeking the safety of another country is not an easy journey and it is heart-rendering when people lose their lives seeking a safe environment. In Britain, we are fortunate to have a roof over our head, to enjoy food that we like and a change of clothes. Imagine not being able to go to school because the school has been bombed, or the teacher has been killed. How would you feel? I am rising to a challenge by climbing Mount Snowdonia with a group of fundraisers. This will be interesting as I am not that fit and I don’t exercise! So I am sure to find those muscles I have lost! The last time I was on a mountain was five years ago and that was more of a walk in Yosemite national park, USA!. But now I will do it for the charity Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) or Doctors Without Borders – a medical charity helping people around the world where medicines and emergency medical aid are desperately needed. They currently have projects running in over 60 countries and work in countries such as Syria, Nepal, Mediterranean Sea, Sierra Leone to name just a few, and are helping now with the hundreds or thousands of refugees trying to find a country in Europe. Can you help? Every penny counts. All the proceeds go towards providing good medical aid, complex surgery and medicines such as cholera vaccines. Many of the projects target children who are the most vulnerable in disastser or war-stricken areas. This charity really touched my heart with the kind of work they are doing. The refugee crisis seems beyond our help, but in supporting me you will be giving to the provision of clean water, food and medicines, and this makes a difference. So, hey-ho, Mount Snowdonia here I come!
