Story
As many of you know, I'm moving away for a year or two to work abroad as a midwife. I'll be going with away with VSO, which is a fantastic organisation with the basic aim to send skilled workers out around the world to exchange skills and work in the most sustainable way possible.
VSO currently has midwives in Sierra Leone, Ethiopia, Malawi and Cambodia, which have some of the highest rates of global maternal and infant mortality. The main issue in these countries isn't their lack of resources (although that is also a major factor), but that medical staff and trainees lack basic life-saving knowledge and skills.
The money that I am raising will NOT be going to me as a volunteer, rather to the organisation as a whole. It costs VSO around £30,000 to send a volunteer away for two years, so what I'm hoping to raise is just a small contribution towards the big differences they make in communities around the world. I'm a long-term supporter of VSO and the way they work, and it means a lot to me to be able to give something back.
Thank you so much for your time and support in advance, I'm almost definitely going to be moaning and/or singing Shakira (badly) at Lisa and Sean for the entire 26 miles.
Please, please dig deep!
Much love xxxx
