The Ear Trust helps in the diagnosis and management of profoundly deaf babies, children and adults mainly in the North of England. It also supplies information on cochlear implantation for families and professionals, supports regular local and national workshops and aids development of assessment and rehabilitation materials.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

A team from training specialist B-Skill is in training for a 10k run to raise money for a charity that is especially close to one of the runner’s hearts.  The team of four runners, which includes one person from the Newcastle office and three people from B-Skill’s Bootle offices on Merseyside, will be taking part in the Manchester 10k run on Sunday May 10 in support of the Ear Trust. The charity supports profoundly deaf babies, children and adults, mainly in northern England, and helps to develop equipment to assess and rehabilitate people affected by hearing issues. A key part of its role is funding cochlear implants for around 90 profoundly deaf people every year. B-Skill’s Faye Jones, Mark Spanner, Jess Byrne and managing director Paul Wileman are aiming to raise as much money as possible for the charity at the event. Faye volunteered to take part in the run because her partner Paul was born with partial hearing that gave him ear infections which has gradually led to the loss of much of his hearing. Faye explained: “At the age of 26 after numerous operations, he now only has 30% hearing left in both ears so raising money for the Ear Trust is something I really want to focus on. I understand what families are going through when this happens to their child, their partner or their friend.” The sponsorship raised by the team will be used by the Bradford-based charity to buy equipment that can make a major difference to the quality of life experienced by deaf and partially deaf people. “You don’t know how much it means to someone with partial hearing when Action for Hearing Loss presents them with a flashing light for the living room when someone rings the doorbell or calls the phone,” said Faye. “Small things that help someone with hearing problems can make a huge difference to the person’s quality of life so every bit of money raised makes a huge difference.”  The Ear Trust is B-Skill’s chosen charity and the business has raised £500 to date. It is also paying entry fees for a number of staff to take part in the Great North Run half marathon in Newcastle in September to raise money for the Ear Trust.  B-Skill’s managing director, Paul Wileman, said: “The Ear Trust is a very good cause and helps transform the lives of many children and adults with hearing difficulties. “I’m proud of our staff who have volunteered to run in Manchester and Newcastle, and those non-runners who are supporting their colleagues with sponsorship. We aim to raise as much money as possible to help fund the life-changing support, advice and equipment that the Ear Trust is able to provide.”
