The Balfour Beatty Charitable Trust was formed for the Group's centenary year. It funds projects which raise the aspiration, motivation and quality of life amongst young people suffering from disadvantage.

Story

Update: After a gruelling night and day trek across the North Yorkshire Moors, we are pleased to say that all six walkers reached the finish line within the required time. We were all in agreement that it was a great deal more difficult than any of us had expected - we have the blisters to prove it.

Thanks to all those who have supported us, to those who haven't - its not too late!

Special thanks to Brian and Richard Purdy for providing plates of bacon sarnies, pots of tea and tons of encouragement along the way. Also thanks to Ian Histon and Simon Forster for navigating us through the dark and into the light with only a few minor blips. Not getting lost would have made it too easy!  For photos and a blow by blow account of the walk click here

........................................................................

As part of Balfour Beatty's commitment to Building Better Futures, a team from Regional Civils Newcastle office are tackling the demanding Lyke Wake Walk in North Yorkshire on the 9th October.

The novice team of semi-fit desk jockeys are Martin Cairns, Simon Forster, Mark Henry, Ian Histon, Chris Rowell and Ken Wood, ably supported by Brian Purdy.

The walk is a complete crossing of the North Yorkshire Moors along their main east-west watershed, a distance of over 40 miles. from Scarth Wood Moor, near Osmotherley to Ravenscar. The challenge is to complete it in less than 24 hours. The current record, held by a fell runner, is not thought to be under threat.

Whilst no training camp is planned, a few of the team are building up stamina by giving up the car at lunch-time to walk to Asda for a 'Good for You' sandwich. No pain no gain......

Please support us with a donation if you can.
