BIAZA is the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums. We are the professional body representing the best zoos and aquariums in Britain and Ireland. We have about 100 zoo and aquarium members who pride themselves on their excellent animal welfare, education and conservation work.

Story

For BIAZA's first Helping Habitats campaign the UK and Ireland's national zoo and aquarium association is working with the World Land Trust to fundraise for the protection and management of 20,000 hectares of lowland forest in Khe Nuoc Trong (KNT), Vietnam.

Lying in the Annamite Mountain Range of north central Vietnam, Khe Nuoc Trong (KNT) is one of the best remaining examples of Annamite Lowland Forest in the world. It is home to a huge range of species, including saola, red-shanked douc, northern white cheeked gibbon, large-antlered muntjac, Annamite striped rabbit and Owston’s civet. It is also a proposed reintroduction site for the crested argus Edwards’s Pheasant.

We are aiming to raise £25,000 to support WLT’s project partner Viet Nature in carrying out crucial management activities at KNT. These activities include strengthening law enforcement through patrolling and snare removal, biodiversity monitoring surveys (including ongoing camera trapping) and developing sustainable livelihoods and eco-tourism.

Whilst this campaign is designed to coordinate the fundraising efforts of BIAZA members it is also a project where we welcome contributions from everyone who is passionate about protecting habitats for wildlife. If you are inspired by what you have read here and would like to make a donation then we would be very grateful.
