'USING THE TRIBE'S AMAZING ENERGY FOR CHARITY'
Kat Bunting, a Les Mills certified Instructor and Personal Trainer is leading The Tribe at Queens Park Fitness First in the BODYPUMP100 UK release on Saturday January 14th 2017!! And it wouldn't be a charity fundraiser with Kat without some crazy fancy dress involved. This time we're going all out in Lycra and leg warmers for that real 80's look!!
BodyPump is a weight-based group fitness program, created and distributed globally by Les Mills International. BodyPump is 59 minutes long and contains eight separate muscle-group specific songs or "tracks" along with an opening warm up track and closing cool-down track. The classes are performed to music using free weights-plates, barbells and an aerobic step. Major muscle groups are worked via series of compound and isolated exercises including squats, presses, and dead lifts. The focus is towards muscle endurance by moving light weights at high repetitions.
As Service Manager of Headway North West London, a charity supporting survivors of acquired/traumatic brain injury in the North West London area, I wanted to use the BODYPUMP100 UK release to raise awareness and money for the charity.
Recovering from a traumatic brain injury is a long and arduous process during which the patient's mobility and independence are in recovery. There's the psychological aspect too. A healthy recovery therefore requires patients to conquer their negativity, combat their sedentary lifestyle, and incorporate a certain amount of exercise into their routine everyday. Research has found that exercise helps recovery of A/TBI persons as it improves cardiorespiratory fitness, level of endurance, as well as sense of balance. Every person's recovery after a severe accident or illness is different. They face different challenges and exibit different levels of motivation in conquering them. After my Dad suffered a serious brain injury following a mountain climbing accident in 2012, exercise and fitness have played an ENORMOUS part in his recovery, not just physically but psychologically too. That's why choosing a fitness event such as the BODYPUMP100 UK launch feels appropriate as it represents building strength, confidence and power.
Here's to all the amazing people I know who continue to build strength and courage in their recovery, and to all you amazing ladies and gents who push yourselves daily at Queens Park Fitness First and inspire those around you with your determination ...and jazzy gym gear!
A special thank you to the team at Queens Park Fitness First for hosting the event.
