I’ve done a couple of 10k races and a 5k over the last couple of years, raising money for local mental health services. I didn’t do any major training for them and I certainly paid the price the next day!
However, I will need to train for this one so firstly, thank you for even clicking on my fundraising page. Moral support is appreciated every bit as financial donations.
So what am I raising money for? Well NUM is a fantastic service that helps providers with the negative side of the industry. They help us report unsavoury, abusive and downright dangerous people who put our safety and sometimes even our lives at risk. They protect other girls from going through the same and should we need help with police reporting, their expertise and emotional support is second to none.
However, funding is crucial to ensure they can provide this service and there are a lot more of us than there are of them.
**How will your donation help?**
•10 pounds will pay for 100 SMS alerts to warn us of dangerous situations.
•15 pounds ensures there’s a criminal justice case worker available to us.
•20 pounds could pay for a victim support worker.
**Why the middle man? Why not just use the police and their support?**
A lot of us like to stay under the radar, fear of outing is often more important to some than reporting the crimes against them. NUM provides the bridge between us and the police. They have in depth knowledge and first hand experience of our lives and the reporting procedures. They ensure that should we ever need police assistance and victim support, that our specific needs are understood and that were not subject to the stigma that we face. I.e being raped is an occupational hazard, it’s not and if that happens to someone, they should be able to report it without fear of being told that it’s part of the job.
So that’s what they do and why I’m raising money for them. Their prevention service is amazing and has stopped many of us seeing guys who are known to be dangerous.
The event is in October 2018 so I’ve got plenty of time to train and bombard you with photos of me sweaty and out of breath! Attractive!
