The Gurkha Welfare Trust is the leading Gurkha charity. We provide financial, medical and community aid to relieve poverty and distress among retired Gurkha soldiers, their families and their wider communities.

Story

A team from Bristol's British Transport Police office are competing in this years Trailwalker endurance challenge. A team of 4 with a support crew will be walking/running/crawling 100km (62miles) in under 30 hours, with a goal of completing in under 24 hours. It will all take place across the South Downs in September 2019, raising money for The Gurkha Welfare Trust and Oxfam.

The challenge itself will consist of 2.3 marathons over terrain with the equivalent elevation of climbing Ben Nevis twice! The team will be walking throughout the night without sleep but will be supported by their crew members at the various check points. Although most of the team are used to letting the "train do the strain" this time they will have to use their own energy!!

The Gurkha Welfare Trust is a British charity established in 1969. It is the principal UK charity dedicated to the provision of aid to Gurkha ex-servicemen and their dependants in their homeland of Nepal, and increasingly in the UK and elsewhere.

Today, the Gurkha Soldiers remain an important part of the British Army. In recent times, Gurkhas have served in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as the Falklands and Gulf Wars.

“When you know you’re with the Gurkhas, I think there’s no safer place to be.”
