Story

Hi, I'm Kate, and I've just had my hair shaved!!!  I was planning on losing my hair (shaving, rather than pulling it out, fortunately) if I could get enough sponsorship by 11th December 2010.  Thanks to all you lovely people I've raised well over my original & subsequent targets.  I'm really touched by your support and I'm sure Mum would have been thrilled - Thank-you all so much!! :D

My much loved mother Barbara Hearn died last year on Christmas morning from bowel cancer.  As this year draws to a close I can't help remembering what she was going through.  Mum had fabulous purple highlights in her hair, which she had to stop having done during her treatment.  She'd always held that the poem "When I grow old I shall wear purple" was the right approach to growing old and her hair was a way of wearing purple every day!

Cancer is a horrible thing, and along with the pain and discomfort of both the illness itself and the aggressive treatment methods, sufferers can find themselves brought up short by other side effects.  Like many others, Mum hated the idea of losing her hair through treatment, it was enough that she'd lost her purple.

I plan to get my head shaved to a grade 3ish in December in part as an act of rememberance, but also with the hope of raising some money for one of the charities that supported both Mum & my father Robert through both her cancer and his previous cancers.

I'll be updating this page with some photos soon

Thanks for checking in :)
