Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Earlier this year I was diagnosed with a large tumour. Thanks to Sarcoma UK's telephone and email helpline, I was referred to a specialist sarcoma centre in London and my 5kg tumour was removed at the Royal Free Hospital. I was very lucky; my tumour was benign and I have made a complete recovery. I am incredibly grateful for the help and advice we received from Sarcoma UK.
Sarcoma is a cancer which grows in the soft tissue or bone. About 3,800 people are diagnosed with sarcoma cancer each year - that is about 10 new people every day. For these, often young, people Sarcoma UK really is a lifeline.
15% of cancers affecting children are sarcoma cancers, and sarcoma is responsible for 11% of all cancer diagnoses in young people aged between 15 and 24. Early diagnosis is critical to prevent the cancer spreading to other parts of the body. For survival, it is vital that patients are referred to a specialist sarcoma team as early as possible. Sarcoma UK provides essential support and information to patients and to GPs to raise awareness of this cancer. Referral to a sarcoma centre is also critical for benign tumours like mine too.
