Story
On 2nd September our team, from Barclays Corporate, are taking on our second cycling challenge and supporting The Christie by taking on the Manchester 100 (100k or 100 miles).
We’re not promising that any of us will win the race, we’re not even promising that we’ll make it without any broken bones, but we can promise you that each and every one of us will end the day, drenched in sweat and mud, hobbling to the minibus in pain, ready to sleep for 24 hours straight!
The cycling team of 14 completed their first challenge on 8th July by taking on the Manchester-Blackpool challenge of c62 miles, with 2 of the team members completing the ride on a tandem!
Barclays will be matching all donations £4£, so please donate what you can and help us support this fantastic cause - it doesn’t matter how much you donate, as every penny helps.
If you don’t think this is enough to earn your sponsorship, please read on below to hear about our motivation for entering into this challenge……
As unfortunate as it is most of you reading this will have been affected one way or another by cancer, and by raising this money and supporting The Christie we are all helping others have a better chance of surviving this terrible illness.
We came to be involved in this fundraising event following the tragic death of one of our colleagues, Elise Roberts. Elise (aged 37) died in October 2010, after battling an extremely aggressive cancer.
Whilst battling her illness Elise set up www.eliseforlife.org with the aim of raising £1m for The Christie over 3 years. Please do visit the website for more information on what a fantastic cause this is.
So far, the Barclays team in Manchester has raised over £70k, completing various challenges including; 1 shaven head, 15 people trekking the Great Wall of China in 2011; 2 marathon runners, 14 people due to ride 60 miles from Manchester-Blackpool and 9 people due to cycle 360 miles across Vietnam & Cambodia in November this year.
Thank you so much for your on-going support.
