Amnesty International UK is movement of ordinary people standing up for humanity and human rights. Some of our campaigns includes refugees, climate change, children's rights, women's rights, and conflict-affected countries. When we unite even the smallest acts of humanity make a difference.

Story

Hi, and thanks for checking out my Just Giving page. Your support is going to help make the pain I'm putting my body through seem worthwhile!

Last year I ran/hobbled the The Great North-West Half Marathon and between myself and Zane raised over £600 for charity. This year I thought I would step it up and go for the full thing. Unfortunately Zane won't be running with me this year as last summer he was captured and imprisoned by the East Indian Trading Company for piracy and is now presumed to be dead. However I'm sure he will help me cross the finish line once again, even if only in spirit this time.

This time I am running for Amnesty International who have a fantastic record of protecting both individuals and large groups of people whose human rights are threatened. They are currently campaigning for the abolition of the death penalty across the world, for human rights in china, and to stop violence against women amongst many other things. If you are not already a member then please join them, it only costs £1 per month and you can do it at http://www.amnesty.org.uk/content.asp?CategoryID=73

Your donation will go towards helping Ferhat Gercek who was permanently paralysed after being shot in the back by Turkish police following a dispute for selling a left wing newspaper. Flaws in the investigation mean the 7 police officers may evade justice whilst Ferhat may be sentenced with up to 15 years in prison if found guilty in connection with the dispute. If you are interested in finding out more please check the amnesty website, you can also see a video of Ferhat learning to walk again here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1VL9yqJ9ZNo

Please give all that you can, its all really appreciated and goes to a good cause.

THANK YOU

Barnaby
