BDL are proud to announce our sponsorship of the
Greater Manchester Law Centre.
The legal landscape has changed dramatically recently
and arguably, not for the better. Now, more than ever, with the increase of the small claims track limit in personal injury claims, access to justice is and will become more difficult for Claimants. Barrister-Direct is committed to initiatives that improve access to justice for individuals in the local community and as such, we are very proud to announce our Corporate Sponsorship of the Greater Manchester Law Centre.
In 1975, there used to be nine law centres across Greater Manchester’s ten boroughs. The closure of the South Manchester Law
Centre in 2015 has meant that there are only two law centres to service 2.5 million Mancunian residents across the ten boroughs of Greater Manchester. In protest, a group of legal aid lawyers, trade unionists and community advice organisations was set up the Greater Manchester Law Centre. The Greater Manchester Law Centre provides free face-to-face legal advice which has helped individuals recover collectively over £370,000 in denied benefits applications last year. They also provide important housing and employment law advice to
those who otherwise could not access legal advice by themselves.
Barrister-Direct has chosen the Greater Manchester Law Centre as our Charity of the Year because we want to ensure they have sufficient funds and resources to continue the important work they do.
