Story
In August 2015, our world was turned upside down. Despite my wife Nikki being initially told by the doctor she was too young and her lump in her breast would be benign, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. So it turned out to be stage 2 and grade 3 ductal invasive breast cancer. This resulted in a lumpectomy and a full axillary node clearance on her left side, having to endure 6 sessions of chemotherapy and 3 weeks of radiotherapy. It's difficult to describe the fears and emotions you go through, but we've never shed so many tears alone and together.
I'm not a great fan of running, maybe a 5k jog every summer but once I saw Breast Cancer Care were looking for fundraisers I thought let's give it a go. It should help raise awareness and importance of checking your breasts, because that's how Nikki found it. Plus we've both found the BCC forum a great help. It's amazing how many women are going through this, have and will do so until a cure is found.
I know it's not a marathon, but any donation to this great cause is welcome.
