Beau's No Booze November AND 3 Mile Swim for Marsh Community Centre · 1 December 2015

The Marsh Community Centre aims to develop self-confidence and skills of local young people and adults in order that they can bring about positive social and environmental change. We also aim to empower community members to make positive choices for themselves and their community.”

Story

Please chuck in a quid, or more if you can afford it. If less than a quarter of my facebook friends gave a quid each, we'd raise £200!

The Marsh Community Centre is a hub for the Marsh estate, giving young people a place to socialise, learn and hang out. The staff and volunteers do incredibly important work in the area, helping and supporting the young people to make positive changes in their lives. For many, it is like a second home, and they have nowhere else to go. The centre isn't just for young people, those of all ages use the space. Due to a funding crisis, if the centre doesn't come up with some money urgently, it will close at the end of this year (31st December). The manager is working tirelessly to secure funding but she is incredibly busy running the centre and working very long hours already. They particularly need some cash in the short term to keep the centre open and cover running costs. Anything you can spare is greatly appreciated. This place really does make a big difference to the lives of some the least fortunate people in Lancaster.

I have helped out on the grounds of the centre in the past, and I went down there today to speak to the manager and work out ways to help. I am going to go without booze for the whole of November (already been nearly 2 weeks!), and then on the first of December swim 3 miles in one go. You all know how much I like my beer, and probably how unfit I've always been. So this isn't quite as silly as it first may seem. 3 Miles would be the furthest I've ever swam, and I can't even do crawl. Witnesses/supporters very welcome! Most importantly, let's show some solidarity with and raise some dosh for a really important local Community Centre. Thank you.
