Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

So the bungee jump was a no go to organise so I have changed plan to do a 10k run. Please help me raise as much as I can for this amazing charity, £50 will fund The Sanctuary (a 24-hour mental health crisis support for adults who are experiencing anxiety, panic attacks, depression, suicidal thoughts or are in crisis. The Sanctuary offers a space to talk and assists with coping after the initial crisis) to support someone at breaking point, so my aim is to help at least one person.

I thought the Manchester 10k would be a fitting event to raise money as if you know me, you will know... I don't run. I haven't run properly since I was forced to do the long track event on year 9 sports day and collapsed half way round. I despise running, my chest gets tight, I cant breathe, I go dizzy and I get all clammy... funnily enough this is what happens when I also have a panic attack. That feeling... x10... adrenaline rushing through your body for no apparent reason... every day... it sucks.  SO, I am willingly pushing myself to the limit to raise awareness and money for mental health charities annnd I am so scared about doing this I probably will have an actual panic attack at the starting line, so if you want an educational experience on what happens when someone with anxiety does something that scares the life out of them (or to be honest just what happens ona regular day when their brain decides to play up)... come along and cheer me on!

I decided to raise money for SelfHelp Services as about 2/3 years ago now I suffered from panic attacks pretty bad (I still have them to this day) but thanks to this amazing organisation I got the help I needed and they picked me up from a pretty dark place at the time. I received free one to one Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, which is only one of the many support services they offer. They not only help people with anxiety and panic attacks but depression and all mental health issues. I know quite a lot of people that have been affected by one of these in their time, and some close family and friends, so I thought I would do my bit to help. If I can at least get one person to go to this organisation and get the help I received I will be happy!
