Story

So it's that time of year again where my Mum lights up her house (street!) with her wonderful display of Christmas lights.

My Mum has done this for the last 27yrs, started out relatively small (although bigger than anyone else at the time) and grew bigger and bigger each year, until it was on par with the film national lampoons christmas vacation, with her making sure to add a few new ones every year.

My Mum takes great pride and satisfaction in seeing the joy her lights bring to people from all over St Albans, and some even further a field. A trip past my Mums house has even become a little bit of a family tradition for some.

They started collecting for various local charities in the early years, and then for Marie Curie at Mount Vernon 14yrs ago due to them saving my Dads life. Without them we would not have been blessed with having him an extra 14yrs. He was in remission for 12 of those years, and was actually given the all clear 4yrs ago. As most of you know though, we tragically lost him very suddenly and unexpectedly 2 years ago. This chosen charity remained the same last 2 years, only in memory of my wonderful Dad.

Marie Curie Mount Vernon is a charity we will forever be grateful for. I know this is a charity not just close to our hearts, but for many of yours too.

We all, especially my Mum hope these wonderful lights bring lots of smiles and joy to you all in what is still such tough times, with so many people struggling. My Mum hopes that these lights bring joy and smiles to you all.
We wish you all a Merry Christmas and hope we all have a better, and Happy New Year!

The lights will be switched on today 11th at 4.30pm

There is a collection box at the front of my Mums drive which will be collecting for Alzheimer's society in memory of my Mum's dear friend Colin Ralph who helped my Mum for many years, every year put up her lights. Sadly Colin lost his fight to this cruel disease in February this year. Last year a great amount was raised in honour of him. Let’s see if this year we can do the same in his memory.

My Mum lost my Dad and the help of Colin all at the same time and yet she still continues to put up the lights to bring joy to as many people possible. Lets show her how much she is appreciated also. Please help do this, by donating whatever you can and by sharing this page far and wide. We know how hard everyone is struggling currently, so please only donate if you have the means to do so. If all you can share is this page, then that’s plenty.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. We hope the lights bring you lots of joy in what is a very dim time for so many.
