Story

The Malcolm Whales Foundation's 2020 Dorset Walk has - for obvious reasons - had to be changed. This is definitely not the right time to be taking 400 kids to a campsite in Dorset and walking them along footpaths and through towns!

So, welcome to our NON-Dorset Walk 2020!!!

Instead of trekking the 40 miles or so from Weymouth to Studland over three days in July, the Gibbses will be piecing together a series of socially-distanced walks between 6-12 July, starting and ending at our home in Ely. We will venture out into the surrounding countryside, stopping for picnics or - if possible by then - even pub garden lunches.

Because the numbers aren't limited by the size of the campsite or the number of buses, the charity is hoping to raise a record amount of money to help support those who are dealing with and recovering from cancer and other life-changing illnesses.

Please take a look at TMWF's 2019 annual report (https://tinyurl.com/u6xrgzd) for details of their work and how they spend the money they raise.

A highlight in 2019 was it's donation of £10,000 - and a lot of blood, sweat and tears - to build a wellbeing garden at the Woodlands Cancer Centre at Hinchingbrooke Hospital. Such was the impact of this, the charity has been asked to fund (and man) a £50,000 refurbishment at Peterborough hospital.

So, as you hit the 'donate' button on this page, you can be sure that you'll not just be inspiring the three of us to overlook our blisters and walk past those open pubs in July, but also that your money will be going a long, long way and making a big, big difference.

Oh yes, and because of the state of my knee now (the consultant's technical term for the right one was "knackered"), I've also lost about one bowling ball, 2.5 bricks or 5 brains worth of weight. So you're incentivising the maintenance of my new waistline too ...

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe, they'll not hassle you with unwanted emails, and the money will go straight to TMWF.
