Story

Lakes in a Day on 12th October 2019 is a 50-mile off road ultramarathon which crosses the Lake District from top to bottom. There's plenty of ups, plenty of downs and I anticipate it taking me around 15 hours to complete.

Because this will be by far the hardest race I've run (and possibly ever will) I wanted to make it count for something. I've worked in high schools in south Manchester for 15 years and I've seen too many young lives affected by poor mental health. I'm raising money for 42nd Street, a Manchester-based charity which supports young people with their emotional well-being and mental health.

This charity is particularly important to me because in January 2013 a former student Kieran Crump Raiswell was tragically killed in Manchester. Since then his family and friends have raised over £30,000 for 42nd Street by organising KieranFest, an annual event to celebrate Kieran’s life.

About the charity

We are here to support young people with their emotional well-being and mental health by offering a choice of effective, creative, young person-centred and rights-based approaches.
