Ben Jaggers' 2015 London Marathon Donation Page

Virgin London Marathon 2014 · 13 April 2014 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Well this is my marathon journey 'take 2' after being unable to run in the 2014 event due to a foot injury - a stress fracture 3 weeks before the big day following a freak fall when playing with the kids in the garden of all things!
So having gone through some rest, rehabilitation, fitted for new orthotics and living a healthier lifestyle in general I'm back with my marathon head on to make sure it gets done this time round!
In order to do this I will be raising money for this charity in order to raise awareness of bowel cancer which is often referred to as the 'hidden killer' cancer.
It is also known as colorectal cancer or colon cancer, and affects the colon (large bowel) and rectum (back passage). It usually grows very slowly over a period of up to 10 years, before it starts to spread and affect other parts of the body.
Most bowel cancers start as benign innocent growths – called polyps – on the wall of the bowel. Polyps are like small spots or cherries on stalks and most do not produce symptoms. Polyps are common as we get older and most polyps are not pre-cancerous. One type of polyp called an adenomacan, however, become cancerous (malignant).
If these are not detected at an early enough stage they are able to grow and spread throughout the body reaching a level that is often deemed inoperable.
I have seen family (Mum) and friends affected by this cancer with both positive and negative outcomes and hope by raising the awareness within my small community can help individuals address this and spread the word accordingly.
Many Thanks
Ben
