Bogle 55 Mile Walk · 1 March 2013

We’re Mind, the mental health charity, working across England & Wales. We believe no one should face a mental health problem alone. We’re here for you. Whether you’re stressed, depressed or in crisis. We’ll listen, give support & advice, & fight your corner. Thanks for fundraising for national Mind.

Story

So why Mind? Several reasons. As some of you may know, for the past 2 and a half years I have been battling serious depression. I am fortunate to have finally won that battle and no longer have that feeling that there is no light at the end of the tunnel.

Some of you may also know that I have worked in a forensic psychiatric hospital. Working here has exposed me to what can happen when mental illness gets really bad. It is an eye-opening experience. While working there, I met some patients who had been helped by the charity Mind. Mind offer advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. They also campaign to improve the care that the NHS offers. One particular patient often told me how much he enjoyed the sessions with Mind and how much it helped his recovery. You can read more about Mind on their website http://www.mind.org.uk.

So given the last charity event I did was getting my hair cut, why have I gone for a 55 mile walk around a cold northern city this time? Well various reasons. I went to University in Manchester but never got round to doing the Bogle walk, yet it always appealed to me. I also am forcing myself into exercise. And what better exercise than 24 hours of continuous walking? And it is something of a challenge to someone who is not really athletic... so in my own masochistic way I've decided to put myself through the pain and try and raise some money for a fantastic charity along the way!
