We defend marine wildlife and habitats to save the ocean for future generations

Story

Around the world, people have been dealing with the pandemic and accompanying restrictions in different ways. Some people were quite productive - learning instruments, mastering a new language, pivoting their business to the online world... I was not one of those people.

My substitution for the outside world, like a hamster finding solace in his spinning wheel, was mindless repetitions of physical exercise. My favourite go to mindless exercise? The good, old fashioned BURPEE.

Drop to the ground. Get back up. Jump. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. I racked up quite a few reps over the course of the pandemic lockdowns. Now, at long last, with spaces starting to reopen I am wondering if all that mindless repetition can be channeled into something that might be able to do just a little bit of good for the world.

I present to you: Ben does BURPEES. For 24 hours (12 Noon 24th April until 12 Noon 25th April) I am going to do burpees. How many burpees? A LOT of burpees. IF (and that is a big IF) that number happens to be higher than 9000, then I will become the proud owner of a piece of paper which says I did more than anyone else has done in a 24hr period (of this particular burpee type).

If you're thinking that sounds stupid - that's probably because it is stupid. But not as stupid as wiping out endagered marine life and ruining our marine ecosystems! That's why I'm hoping my little bout of stupidity can get people thinking about some of the things that really do matter on this planet (hint: our oceans should be on the list!)

If you can share a thought or even a few pounds towards this cause then I'm sure my 24hrs of self-induced suffer will be worth it.
