Ben's "Team Hessey" Jenson Button Trust Triathlon page

Jenson Button Trust Triathlon · 14 July 2013 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit the my JustGiving page.
So why am I doing this? I are doing this in memory of my dearest friend James Michael Hessey, who on the 15 March 2013 ended his battle with Epithelioid Sarcoma, a rare form of cancer. He was aged 35.
James Hessey was a great friend. He was a huge Newcastle supporter and F1 fan and also a great patriot and proud to be British!
The cancer James had was a very rare, aggressive form of Sarcoma and his battle was very short, having several operations, which ended with the removal of his lower right arm.
However, in January James' cancer had metastasis to his lungs and
oesophagus leaving his body unable to function properly.
A few of his closest friends were together in the Three Cups pub having lunch the day before he was admitted to hospital, we joked and planning things he wanted to see and do over the coming months.
However, a week later in Southampton we were told the Chemotherapy had not worked - his response was to plan a boys’ horse racing day in the hospital!
A week later James decided to refuse any future unnecessary treatment, which is undoubtedly the most courageous, optional decision anyone can make. And two days later on the 15th March, Red Nose Day 2013, James decided enough was enough.
So why am I doing this particular challenge? I simply wanted to do something in James’s memory and given he loved Formula 1 – I thought the Jenson Button triathlon was the perfect place to start… please note this is just the start of our fundraising efforts in James’s name!
