Vuelta De Los Pyrenees · 4 August 2018 to 11 August 2018 ·
The previous two year's cycling over the French and the Italian Alps were extremely motivating as we could raise funds to support an additional 120 kids into the programs for A4D just through our BIKE's FOR A REASON. Needless to say that all of us don't care about our butts and legs hurting.... We had to continue the journey.... And here we are with again a bigger Team. It's time to "BIKE FOR A REASON, Part III (Vuelta De Los Pyrenees)"....
In early August, I will be heading over to the Pyrenees to attempt our third epic Action for Diabetics cycling challenge of the year. This time, the A4D team and I will be taking on a 6 day, 800km, 18 000m ascent ride from Ribes de Freser in the North of Spain to Toulouse in France across the Pyrenees, We will be pushing ourselves up and over some of Vuelta's and Tour de France mountain passes such as the "La Rabassa", "Coll de Canto" and "Col du Portillon".
After the fundraising success of USD 35,000 for last year's 'Italian Job' cycle, we are challenging ourselves to raise a whopping USD 50, 000 in aid of Action for Diabetics, a frontline charity supplying healthcare, education and support to young type 1 Diabetics in the poorest parts of South East Asia.
Although Type 1 diabetes cannot be cured, the treatment is available in more developed Countries allowing sufferers to live a full and active life. However, if left untreated, Type 1 diabetes is hugely debilitating and eventually fatal to kids who develop the condition early on in their lives. Unfortunately, children in underdeveloped regions of SE Asia (including parts of Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand) simply do not have access to the healthcare and education they need to survive this manageable condition.
By providing education for kids and their families through 'Diabetes Camps' and treatment through sustainable supplies, A4D has already enrolled 307 kids with Type 1 Diabetes onto their programs, targeting 600 kids by 2020, and continue to work tirelessly in an effort alleviate the suffering of more children and their families. 50 Euros is sufficient to provide one months supplies of essential medication and supplies....
It would be great if many of you could support A4D with your donations too. Every Euro counts and would clearly MAKE A DIFFERENCE. Thank you so much
