Story
The previous year's cycling over the French and Spanish Pyrenees were extremely motivating as we could raise funds to support an additional 120 kids into the programs for A4D just through our BIKE FOR A REASON challenge. Needless to say that all of us don't care about our butts and legs hurting.... We had to continue the journey.... And here we are with again a bigger Team and back to Italy. It's time to "BIKE FOR A REASON, Part IV (The Italian Job 2)"....
In early Septemer, I will be heading over to the Emilia-Romagna to attempt our fourth epic Action for Diabetics cycling challenge of the year. This time, the A4D team and I will be taking on a 7 day, 850 km, 16,000 m ascent (twice the Mt. Everest) ride from Bagno di Romagna in the North West of Italy over San Marino to the Nove Colli Challenge. We will be pushing ourselves up and over some of the Giro d'Italia's most recent climbs such as Passo Fumaiolo, Passo Mandriolo, the climb to Carpegna or the Nove Celli.
After the fundraising success of USD 55,000 for last year's 'Vuelta Pyrenees' cycle, we are challenging ourselves to raise a whopping USD 75,000 in aid of Action for Diabetics, a frontline charity supplying healthcare, education and support to young type 1 Diabetics in the poorest parts of South East Asia.
Although Type 1 diabetes cannot be cured, the treatment is available in more developed countries allowing sufferers to live a full and active life. However, if left untreated, Type 1 diabetes is hugely debilitating and eventually fatal to kids who develop the condition early on in their lives.
Unfortunately, children in underdeveloped regions of SE Asia (including
parts of Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand) simply do not have
access to the healthcare and education they need to survive this
manageable condition.
By providing education for kids and their families through 'Diabetes Camps' and treatment through sustainable supplies, A4D has already enrolled 368 kids with Type 1 Diabetes onto their programs, targeting 600 kids by 2020, and continue to work tirelessly in an effort alleviate the suffering of more children and their families. 50 EUR is sufficient to provide one months supplies of essential medication and supplies....
It would be great if many of you could support A4D with your donations too. Every EUR counts and would clearly MAKE A DIFFERENCE. Thank you so much, Bernd
