Ménière's disease is an unknown illness which can leave people unable to work, drive, attend family gatherings or even play with their children. The four main symptoms are tinnitus, fluctuating hearing loss, severe vertigo and building up of pressure in ears. People also have severe vomitting lasting for hours, sometimes days. This affects people's ability to carry out day to day tasks which we take for granted - such as crossing roads and going to a supermarket! Even these simple tasks are a challenge in themselves. It is also a progressive disease. Today, there is no known cure. Sufferers are able to have varying treatments, however what works for one, may not work for another. 13+ million people are affected world-wide.
Andy Morgan (Lindsay's partner) has been affected now for almost 2 years. Andy had ridden his bike with my husband Matt for nearly 20 years. He can't do this anymore. He also cannot drive, taking away his independence. Just simply playing with his 2 beautiful girls is a struggle.
Andy has had several types of medication which have failed him miserably, steroid injections in his ears followed by antibiotic injections which run a risk of permanently damaging his hearing and balance systems. He is currently undergoing balance rehabilitation in the hope that he can start to get some form of normality back in his life. With fundraising, more research can be carried out to be able to treat or even cure this horrendous disease that steals lives.
