Gulp – I’m running the 2018 London Marathon!!
I've been lucky enough to get a place through the City of London’s 23 Mile Club and this is a BIG step up for me. But I’m confident that I’m ready to take on the challenge ahead.
Running has had such a positive impact on my mental health over the past few years. 1 in 4 of us will experience mental health problems at some point in our lives and I’m really pleased that as part of my marathon journey I’ll be supporting three charities (through the Lord Mayor’s Appeal) that are making a real difference in this field:
The Samaritans - The Samaritans helpline is available 24 hours a day, offering a free confidential listening service to anyone in distress. They also work to raise awareness of issues related to suicide and depression. They receive almost no government funding and every £4 raised enables them to answer a lifesaving call for help.
Place2Be – Only 6% of the annual mental health budget is spent on children’s mental health services but the costs of not providing early mental health support are considerable. With donations raised through the Lord Mayor’s Appeal, Place2Be will deliver a transformational mental health programme which will provide 180 schools in London with access to emotional support through in-school therapeutic services.
OnSide Youth Zones – This charity aims to provide teenagers in some of the most deprived London boroughs with somewhere safe and inspiring to go in their leisure time. The motto for their purpose-built Youth Zones is ‘Somewhere to go, something to do, someone to talk to.’
Anything that you can give in support of my race will be very much appreciated!
