Beyond the C choir came about two years ago, inspired by visits to The Royal Brompton in London, where my Mother receives treatment. We kept seeing posters advertising the importance of singing to aid breathing and we started to think about whether it would help people affected by cancer as well. I approached my friend who is an excellent pianist, and my colleague and manager. They all agreed to support the concept. 17 people affected by cancer attended the first meeting and now we have 45 people on the register! The choir consists of brave, courageous people who have been affected by cancer and live in Milton Keynes or surrounding areas. They meet together to sing and promote their wellbeing, to support one another, to learn musicality, but also to share joy. They are absolutely amazing and always ready to welcome new members. We meet on the last Friday of the month, 1pm to 3pm at The Peartree Centre, Milton Keynes. MK3 6EB.
We have recorded 'Both Sides Now' by Joni Mitchell because this song means alot to many of the choir members, who can relate to the words. With permission from publishers, and the help of Caroline Dickens (Musical Director) Dan Grech (Record Producer) and team, John Bowman and Graeme Surtees (The Stables, Wavendon) we have a professional recording of 'Beyond the C' singing 'Both Sides Now'. Our aim is to raise money for the new cancer centre in Milton Keynes, through donations when people request the recording.
