River Ayr Way - Source to Sea 44 Miles · 27 September 2012

We are a national charity dedicated to those who suffer harm as a result of their policing role. Through our confidential programme of practical, emotional, and financial support, we are there for serving and former personnel carrying the physical and psychological impact of public service.

Story

John Hurren and Martyn Thomas are set to complete the River Ayr Way, which is Scotland’s first source to sea river walk. The River Ayr Way covers a distance of 44 miles and follows the river Ayr from its source at Glenbuck Loch (Muirkirk) to the sea at Ayr. The River Ayr Way walk is normally undertaken in 3 stages, however John and Martyn will endeavour to complete this challenge in one almighty trudge from source to sea.

This challenge has been taken up in order to raise funds for the Police Dependants’ Trust. The Trust was established in 1966 and provides support following the death or serious injury of a police officer. Since the Trusts inception it has given more than £45million to some seven thousand beneficiaries, however the Trust need to raise around 2.5 million each year to continue to supporting officers and their dependants.
