The Alderbourne, Stroke and Daniel's wards provide multidisciplinary rehabilitation for patients with neurological conditions including, spinal injuries, strokes, and brain injuries. We are raising funds to create a rehab garden.

Story

It only takes a split second for your life to change completely, it can be coming off a bike, having a brain bleed, contracting an infection that leaves you paralysed. In each case your life is turned upside down, and everything you once knew has now changed. You may have to learn to walk again. Your perception of the world is suddenly different. A neuro team will do their best to help physical recovery. A clinical psychologist will help you come to terms with what has happened. Research shows that an outdoor space where reflection can take place amidst nature, will help mental wellbeing and recovery. We want to raise funds to create a beautiful outdoor garden at Hillingdon's Alderbourne unit where patients can find privacy on their own, or with their families, to adjust to their new situation. A space where they can escape the clinical ward and sit and listen to bird song, feel the sun on their face, learn to adjust to using a wheelchair, and carry out simple gardening activities.
