Bungay Black Dog Marathon · 2 April 2017

Dom’s Fund was set up in 1997 in memory of Dominic Barker, a persistent stammerer. We fund research into stammering, to develop effective support for people who stammer and their families. We particularly support research with practical outcomes and training of speech and language practitioners.

Story

Fluent speech is something that most of us are able to take for granted. Those who stutter or stammer, however, expend huge amounts of unseen energy on struggling to communicate, thinking ahead to avoid problem words, feeling the pressure to get their words out before the listened either jumps in to rescue them, or turns away. People who stutter often experience not only frustration and isolation but also discrimination at all sorts of levels.

Dom's Fund (the Dominic Barker Trust) supports research into the causes and treatment of stammering as well as raising awareness of the issues that surround stammering. It is a Suffolk-based charity with no paid staff and virtually no overheads. Dom's Fund relies on public donations to continue this important work and every little bit really does help.

Henry is really hoping for cool, still weather on April 2nd so that he stands a chance of crossing the line in under 3 hours. This would be a truly fantastic achievement in what is a tough, hilly, all-terrain marathon. He is training hard and is now breaking in his new race shoes. Your support may well lend wings to his heels, so thank you very much indeed.
