Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I must be mad but then as someone once said “Worse than madness is Sanity.”

On 3 of March this year I will be joining Atacama Crossing in Chile , they say that this challenge is one of the toughest endurance race in the world !  The desert is recognized as the driest place on earth, 50 times more arid than California’s Death Valley. It is a lunar landscape, so much so that NASA uses it to test its planetary vehicles. In this welcoming place I will be walking 250 kilometres (155 miles) in 7 days. The race is self supported which means I will have to carry a rucksack with everything I need.

Why am I doing this?

I work for Macmillan Cancer Support Telephone Helpline. Last year we answered nearly 150,000 calls from people affected by cancer but the service is really busy and sometimes people can’t get through. On the helpline we have nurses that can give information, benefit advisors that can find which benefits someone affected by cancer is entitled to, financial guidance advisors that can help with issues related to pensions, mortgages and more, and a team of support staff that are there to listen. We know how cancer touches all aspects of people’s lives, their health, their finances, their relationships, and their sense of self. And we also know how it can become a real force for change in someone’s life. Some of the stories are deeply touching: stories of fear and courage, stories of hope and despair, stories of love and courage.

I am dedicating this ‘walk’ to each and every one of the staff in the Macmillan Support Line, to all the people who have called the service and to everyone who may need to call us to get help, we are here for you. I want to raise money to make sure that we can be there for anyone who needs our help.

Please give whatever you can, even if it's a small amount (a couple of quid, a fiver, a tenner) - you'd be amazed how it all adds up and it will be so appreciated.

PS: Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
