The objective of the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation is to encourage and assist young people to 'climb as high as they can dream', by providing annual scholarships and bursaries for their training and personal development in the pursuit of their ambitions.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

JTYAF was founded by following the death of Lt John 'JT' Thornton RM in 2008. John died at the age of 22, having lived a full life. He had climbed Kilimanjaro, flown with the Red Arrows, travelled across New Zealand and qualified as a sky diver as well as becoming a Royal Marine. He was killed on his second tour while in Afghanistan.

Since 2008, the foundation has awarded over £500,000 to more than 1300 young people to give the unique opportunities for personal development and live up to their dreams like John did. For many, this financial support is the only way to help achieve their ambitions, whether it be to start a small business or invest in technology for creative pursuits. It has also sponsored recent volunteer programs in Peru, Kenya, Ecuador and Ghana - to name a few.

Unlike many larger charities, no amount of money goes to the founders or trustees, meaning all donations go straight to funding the projects of young people.

JTYAF really is a foundation for getting great ideas off the gound. You can find out more about them on their website:   https://www.jtyaf.org/

Please feel free to come along and watch me on the 23rd of March. Thank you for your contributions!
