Story

Bolton Lads & Girls Club entered a team into the 2013 Talisker Whisky Atlantic Rowing Challenge, a 3,000 mile rowing race across the Atlantic Ocean starting at the Canary Islands, it took 59 days, 18 hours, 40 minutes before they arrived in Antigua.

We did this to raise £250,000 which is being used to ensure the Junior Mentoring Project can continue to offer this vital support to some of the most vulnerable children in Bolton. There is currently a waiting list of nearly 200 kids that the mentoring programme could quite literally make a life changing effect on their young lives and therefore we wanted to take on an extreme challenge that would raise both awareness and the funds needed to allow this not only to continue but do away with the long waiting list. The rowers are Mark Brocklehurst, Nick Griffiths, Matt Nuttall and Finn Christo. For more information or to see how the team fared in the race go to www.boltonatlanticchallenge.co.uk Thank you for supporting us in our challenge and helping the young children we have to protect.

Fundraising is going like a steam train and we are within touching distance of our ultimate £250k target. With two events to go and the other team members pages we just need a final push to help those poor children to a better future, please keep donating & watch us change lives.

Since we returned to the UK the team have been overwhelmed by the amount of support we recieved whilst out on the Atlantic. During the low points it seemed we were battling the storms alone but in reality there were hundreds of kindrid spirits out there with us, it means so much.

We made it safely into Antigua after eight weeks at sea. It was without doubt the hardest and most challenging encounter we had experienced before and took its toll on our bodies and minds. We are so proud of what we achieved and know it will make a massive difference, thank you.

The team & the boat are ready & we just want to get started so we can deliver ourselves across the finish line as fast as we can go. We are at the half way stage with our fundraising so hopeful that everyone keeps supporting us. whilst we are away over Christmas, thanks

In just over 50 days we board a plane for the Canaries to prepare for the row across the Atlantic & the toughest challenge we have ever undertaken, the cruel irony is that the kids we are trying to help face bigger issues every single day. Please help us make a difference, thanks
